Architectural designer based in Margate, Kent.

BACKGROUND

I grew up in Florence, Italy where I studied fine art in at the Liceo Artistico and architecture at Universitá degli Studi di Firenze. In 1999 I relocated to London, working in graphic design and digital media, and finally came back to architecture, renovating a number of properties in Hackney.

In 2007, I designed the award-winning The Reading Rooms B&B in a dilapidated Grade II listed Georgian townhouse in Margate with my partner Louise and since then I have been running the business, as well as restoring, adapting, and improving historic buildings.

APPROACH TO MY WORK

Most of my work involves the repair and creative adaptation of historic buildings to accommodate new or extended uses.

Each project requires a unique response; mediating between the qualities of the existing site and building, and the practical needs and cultural aspirations of a client.

Where historic fabric has survived, I like to prioritise the careful repair, preservation and enhancement of the unique character of the buildings, revealing the original form and historic layers that tell the story of use and inhabitation. Where new additions and alterations are required, my preference is toward considered contemporary design.
